Choosing Your Right Standee Size

  • 11 August 2026
Choosing Your Right Standee Size

Selecting the right size for a standee requires considering the location—such as a storefront, shopping mall, or event venue—as well as your specific objectives to ensure maximum effectiveness.

Think of a standee as a silent salesperson. If it is too bulky or imposing, customers might feel intimidated and hesitate to enter the store. Conversely, if it is too small, it risks being overlooked entirely. If the message is unengaging or cluttered with too much text, people won't read it; if the visual presentation—such as the design and colors—is unappealing, people won't even look at it.

Choosing the right standee size depends on the intended purpose and the available space.

Standard Sizes and Usage

S (Small – Tabletop/Mini): Approx. 40x60 cm or 60x160 cm.

  • Suitable for: Countertops, narrow spaces, or promoting small products.

M (Medium – Life-size): Approx. 150–170 cm in height.

  • Suitable for: Life-sized images of people or brand ambassadors; placement in front of general shops, restaurants, or cafes.

L / XL (Large – Eye-catching): 180–200 cm or taller (80–120 cm wide).

  • Suitable for: Events, spacious halls, photo spots, or situations requiring visibility from a distance.

The 3-Second Rule for Standees

The "3-second rule" for standees is a design principle aimed at conveying the core message within the first three seconds of a passerby catching sight of the display.

To effectively capture attention and prompt people to stop, the design must utilize concise text (no more than seven words), large and clear lettering, and strategic placement of key information at eye level.

Design techniques based on the "3-Second Rule":

  • Concise messaging: Keep headlines under 7 words; focus on one main message per sign; avoid overcrowding with information like a brochure.
  • Large typography: Ensure the main text is easily readable from a distance of 3–5 meters, with characters at least 10–15 cm tall (for a 180 cm tall standee).
  • Eye level: Position key visuals, logos, or important text between 90 and 160 cm from the ground—the zone of greatest visibility.
  • Use eye-catching imagery: Product photos or realistic images communicate much faster than text, allowing people to instantly understand what is being sold.
  • Use high-contrast colors: Choose background and text colors that contrast sharply to ensure visibility from a distance.

How to Choose a Standee That Won't Let You Down

A standee prominently displayed in front of your shop, booth, or department store reflects your brand's image. You certainly wouldn't want it to create a poor impression. The following tips can help you avoid that.

  1. Create a sturdy frame/steel stand: Choose a standee design suitable for the installation area, considering wind speed and foot traffic.
  2. Material reflects brand value: Using Plastwood for the standee will give a more luxurious look than corrugated plastic board, with a smooth surface and resistance to breakage/bending.
  3. Flawless Die-Cutting: These Plastwood standees are cut using CNC machines, ensuring clean, smooth edges along both curved and straight lines.
  4. Matte Finish for Stunning Results: If you want a standee that looks great in photos, opt for a matte finish. This prevents glare from camera flashes and ambient lighting, guaranteeing beautiful photos from any angle.
